A Case Study: How a Team Grew Together Through the Athlete Mindset

12. January 2026

Some months ago, I was contacted by a department head whose team was at a point where conflicts, uncertainty, and a lack of coordination defined their daily routine. Employees were working alongside each other rather than with each other, decisions were often postponed, and changes triggered resistance rather than motivation. The leader wanted a team that communicates clearly, takes responsibility, and moves forward together.

The Starting Point: Finding Common Ground

We kicked things off with a keynote that was intended not just to inspire, but to lay the foundation: Clarity, Courage, Focus, and Resilience as a shared language for the entire process. Already at this stage, it became clear that every team member brought their own specific topics and strengths to the table—a valuable starting point.

The Process: From “I” to “We”

In the next step, we worked specifically on three themes in our workshops:

Clarity: Roles and goals were clearly defined, and misunderstandings were resolved. Courage: An open error culture emerged, where problems were no longer hidden but actively addressed. Focus: We developed routines that sharpened the view on what’s essential and made collaboration easier.

To conclude, we organized a full-day team event with a focus on resilience. Here, the team experienced how to stick together and find solutions even in challenging situations. It was impressive to see how the dynamics changed: individual fighters turned into a group that supports one another and has fun doing so.

The Turning Point

I particularly remember an exercise during the team event where the group could only solve a complex task through cooperation. After initial skepticism, an energy emerged that I hadn’t felt before. From that moment on, it was clear: mutual trust was growing.

The Result – Tangible Changes in Daily Routine

A few weeks later, the leader reported that meetings are more productive, conflicts are resolved faster, and collaboration runs more smoothly. The employees themselves described taking on more responsibility and supporting each other more strongly.

“Today we speak more openly, make decisions together, and pull in the same direction. It feels like we are finally working toward a common goal.” – that is how one team member put it in a nutshell.

Why I am Sharing This Story

Because it shows that team development is more than just a workshop. It is a process that sustainably changes attitude and collaboration – on an individual, collective, and organizational level.
